A Message from the Author

Growing up on the beautiful island of Jamaica…

I would always get in trouble for sneaking a book under my covers and using a small light to read past my bedtime. I devoured books and fed my curiosity often. This passion for learning and reading came from spending time with my father, who did not learn how to read until he was 15 years old. His story of perseverance and fighting through literary challenges is what inspired me to write books for children, with children of color at the forefront of the stories.

In 2019, I was looking for educational books with adequate representation to gift my nephew. As an educator, I understand how important the content and context of a book is to a child’s development. When my search came up short, I did the next best thing: created one. One book turned into two, and has now become the rapidly-expanding list of high-quality learning resources for children everywhere.

My books prioritize the representation of children of color because they are still so underrepresented in literature and entertainment across all media forms. I hope to be a part of the change that reignites a culture of curiosity in our children through literacy and numeracy in all media forms.

I am a self-published children’s author with a deep-rooted love for reading, learning and empowering children. They deserve more diverse resources, and I am proud to be an active and willing contributor to those efforts.
